It seems like the JQ team has been working hard to make it bigger and better than ever before!”

This event draws hundreds of people who are ready to celebrate more than just the Jewish Festival of Lights; It’s a chance for LGBTQ community members and allies to support one another while benefitting an organization that continues to make the broader Jewish family a more diverse and inclusive one. Guests at the 2015 Gelty Pleasures “I think it’s important to have events like this that cater to the diversity of our communities, which can sometimes be alienating within their niches,” said Laganja Estranja. “In this time of ‘anti-political-correctness’ and backlash against social progress, marginalized communities need to be strong together!  It doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, gay, trans, Jew or Jesuit — we need to stand together against hate.  This xenophobia has to stop.  It has to be curbed.  We have to be strong in the celebration of our culture and lifestyle.”

For others, like The Empress, JQ International represents the community she is closest to.  “For me, JQ speaks a lot to the community I was born into, which is the Iranian Jewish Community,” she says, “It’s important to have events like Gelty Pleasures just for the sake of visibility and having a sense of acceptanGuests at the 2015 Gelty Pleasuresce for us and for our families.”

Whether you are looking for an opportunity to celebrate Hanukkah, interested in seeing some great performances, ready to dance the night away or searching for a place to make a Hanukkah donation, this year’s Gelty Pleasures is the place to be!

“JQ International is doing amazing work,” The Empress said, “I can’t help but be envious that it wasn’t around when I came out.”

This event is part of the Infinite Light City wide festival, which is made possible in partnership with NuRoots, a program of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.
